WE'RE EXPERTS, AT LITERAL OUTPOSTS
TO THE OUTPOST is a trio of remotely-based, mobile designers, geographically based in NYC, Philadelphia, Alaska, and North Carolina (with some occasional LA tossed in there too). We bring together our expertise from working with top lifestyle brands, startups, and social movements, and we believe that the best people don't necessarily all live in the same city; in fact, we work from pretty much anywhere. We work together with FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Skype, text, email, calls… What’s App, Instagram messages, you-name-it. We're on site at the right times during each project, and we create travel plans for each project in order to get our clients the best results that fit their specific project needs.
WE BUILD TEAMS
Teamwork is everything to us, and we provide the highest level of stewardship to the teams of consultants, clients, and vendors that we assemble. We lead teams collaboratively, and the way we work with our clients feels more like we're in-house design leadership than outside consultants. We have an extensive network of architects, contractors, fabricators, and vendors that we draw on to create our project teams, and we’re pros at managing these interdisciplinary groups on design and construction projects.
WE LIVE THE BRAND
We specialize in design for lifestyle brands. We dive deep in understanding a brand, its customers, where’s it’s been, and where it wants to go. We care, because caring is the fun part (well, one of the fun parts!). TO THE OUTPOST is a process-oriented design studio, and we engage our clients in a collaborative process that allows client insight throughout design development. Design processes we employ include: experience-mapping, vision-boarding, mood-boarding, program diagramming, data-driven design, prototyping, and iterative design. Our robust process leads to a well-thought design. It allows us to consider a customer’s full experience, an employee’s comfort, and the wonderful feeling of community that’s created by the convergence of the two.
OUR TEAM
KIR MOORE
Kir Moore founded TO THE OUTPOST in 2019 to bring together the best designers, disregarding the traditional criteria that we’re tied to geographic limits. Kir home-bases from Anchorage, Alaska, where she skis from her house to her office in the winter, wears hiking boots to work in the summer, and has all the flights out of Anchorage International Airport memorized. Kir advocates for remote work, families, and proximity to majestic nature, with the belief that these things inspire and enable us to think beyond trends, and create truly unique experiences in every space that we design. Kir possesses deep industry experience and knowledge for streamlining the deployment of a rollout, saving money and time without sacrificing great design. This industry know-how is built from 15 years of leadership for market-dominating lifestyle brands that cater to conscious consumers, including Sweetgreen, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Cycle House, Commune Design, Opening Ceremony, and more. She’s nice too, so go and friend her on LinkedIn!
LILIANA DIRKS-GOODMAN
Lili is an artist, graphic designer, and IRL experience architect who has worked on architectural projects in Los Angeles, Japan, and New York, in addition to directing design and marketing at New York Live Arts. Lili has designed for brands including Standard Hotels and DKNY. Her parallel experimental creative practice merges architecture with curated social experiences to forge real world practices of ecological sustainability, feminism, and social equity. She is the codirector of NYC’s AUNTS performance art events, and she is the creator of NYC-based Feminist Dinner Parties.
KRISTEN LEVY
Kristen is an exceptionally talented interior designer with an extensive background in merchandising, color and material coordination, architectural detailing, and specifications. Kristen cut her teeth working for brands including Free People and Urban Outfitters, where she specialized in adaptive reuse and honed her talents for creating new architectural details just as bespoke as the historical ones she worked to preserve in her projects. She is an interior designer with IDology out of Asheville, North Carolina, and part of the Oak Tree Collective, which builds sustainable structures every year at Bonnaroo. She has experience with green design practices and is a certified aging-in-place specialist, because she believes that everyone should be able to thrive in their environment, regardless of age and mobility. Her eye for style and color as well as an apt ability to manage her projects with precise communication, guidance, and accuracy, keeps project workflows seamless and intuitive.
